Called ‘Hands off Our Holiday’, the campaign was launched at nine UK airports – Gatwick, Luton, London City, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol, Belfast International and Newquay.

This campaign to persuade the government to drop a planned rise in air passenger duty (APD) began at airports, with campaigners handing leaflets to passengers declaring ‘Hands off our holiday, Mr Taxman’. Staff, wearing t-shirts saying ‘Hands off our holiday, Mr Taxman’ encouraged passengers at each airport to complain to their Member of Parliament about next year’s double-inflation rise in APD.

This campaign had the backing of three major airline bodies: the Airport Operators Association (AOA), British Air Transport Association (BATA) – which counts all the major UK airlines, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and easyJet among its members – and the Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR-UK).

A website www.handsoffourholiday.com was set up where people could register their protest and encouraged the public to tweet their support, using the hashtag #handsoffourhols.

Advertising and web graphics were produced to promote the event. Signage, banners graphics and an animated rolling presentation were created for the stands. A set of award plaques were also designed for The Country Life – LAPADA Object of the Year competition which was being judged by a panel of eminent experts including John Bly, the distinguished dealer who is well-known from his appearances on BBC’s Antiques Road Show, Sir Timothy Clifford, Judith Miller of Miller’s Guides and Jeremy Warren of the Wallace Collection.

Genium was commissioned to create a new website for teenagers with autism. The website called ‘The Den’ has now been launched by the Autism Education Trust (AET), England’s only umbrella organisation for autism education.

The Den is a hub of information, advice, personal stories, films and games designed specifically for teenagers and young adults on the autism spectrum and their siblings and friends.

The new website is the first of its kind, designed to give teenagers with autism information about the subjects which may interest or worry them in a way they can easily digest, as well as share their opinions and experiences. It uses short films to present a lot of the information, as many people with autism find visual information easier to process. The films also have the option of sub-titles. Visitors to The Den can meet the team of experts and email questions directly, offering them the chance to ask for advice on sensitive topics. The ‘Get the facts’ section includes essential information and expert advice on a range of general life topics from health and relationships to work and money, and includes links to further advice.

The Den will also run a competition to find young people with autism to write and regularly update a diary of their experiences. A selection of films gives a personal perspective of life for young people with autism. There is also a fun interactive element, with quizzes and games, such as a ‘choose your own adventure’ game.

The site was designed through extensive consultation with the AET Youth Council, as well as other groups of young people on the autism spectrum. The site is hosted as part of the main AET website, which also contains a Kids Zone for younger children.

Genium was commissioned to design and manage a website for The Autism Education Trust (AET). The AET is dedicated to co-ordinating and improving education support for all children on the autism spectrum in England.
It is estimated that one in 100 children is on the autism spectrum. Their education is the primary concern for most parents and carers. The Autism Education Trust aims to create a platform for voluntary, independent and statutory providers to plan and develop appropriate autism education provision across all education settings, including early years.

The AET website includes a number of resources for students and teachers, including:

• tools for teachers supporting pupils with autism
• a guide for supporting children through transition
• ‘The Den’ – a new, interactive area for teenagers with autism.
