Project: Learning english pack
BBC Learning English supports adults with low levels of English (or none at all) to allow them to integrate with their local communities. They approached Genium to create an educational pack that delivers a fresh approach to English language learning. The aim of the materials is to help learners improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing in English, with exercises based on every-day activities such as shopping, travelling and eating. The objective is for learners to develop confidence to take part in community-based activities and social tasks.
What we did
Genium designed a pack displaying the 12 units devised by the BBC, containing instructions, a DVD, posters, leaflets and flash cards. The design evolved around the need for flexibility required by teachers to run sessions over a short period of time. The lessons were to be delivered through a combination of tutor-led sessions, online learning and volunteer group activity.
The programme designed by Genium is available on the English My Way website and has been delivered by 56 UK online centres in 29 areas of highest language need, plus a further 60 centres who run the programme on an unfunded basis. 4,860 learners took part in the programme from April 2014 to June 2015 with 25% progressing to an Entry Level 1 English course.
